2014....:)

On the verge of the cracking of dawn of the year ahead, 2015, I consider it high time to look into the year passed by, the year of jubilation, 2014.

Certainly, to begin with, this IS the ecstatic year which saw me get into the institute of my dreams with the branch of my choice.
This fact alone sums up the year functionally, but technically, a year has 365 days and nothing is more disgusting than to balance all but one of the year's deeds to that ONE event.
So, here are my biggest hits of 2k14:

  1. The warrior rises from the ashes...    It was a cold and harsh January which greeted me this year. Frantic as I was after seeing my plight and poor preparedness for JEE, it was only in the winters that the light of getting myself in the rank lists of JEE lit up. January saw me rising and never falling into pressure as I cruised through all tests and exams of JEE and life and made myself comfortable with the feel of "Yes, I can do it..."....
I definitely have to do IT....
  2. The realization of a hidden trouble... February again was a dominating month and I continued my streak of ever rising and building.
But, all further movements were obstructed by the sudden realization of the truth-beyond-imagination, JEE-thwarting and hollow-but-raucous-disturbance, the CBSE Boards...
I, being a person with a lot of friends, found it relatively easy to procure exam notes and easy-hacks, but yes, I had to give that thing some time. Finally, I aborted my JEE preps and began to fear about a bigger task in hand, pass the top 20 percentile cutoff.
  3. The Boards...//enough said.
That month was nasty. English and Science didn't go together. Reason and Rutta-fication had varying paces... Oh God !!
Nevertheless, I saw myself through the storm and stood again, not so firmly but on harder soils....
  4. Time for warm-up... Its JEE Mains, up ahead...
April it was. And it was time for some real challenge, although not so challenging.
Keeping April Jokes apart, we were entrusted the task of breaking the coaching's last year's JEE Mains record of 225 marks (that made me laugh, though)....
We still had a week or two after the boards till JEE Mains and then about 6 quarters of months till JEE Advanced. Party time up ahead...:D
Living to expectations, the record was well broken and a new one established for future generations... (mind it, it was 313)... Now, that was a worthy challenge.
With JEE Mains conquered, it was party time.
    Though it was short lived.
  5. The stage is set.... Its MAY, folks...
    May I do this.??
    May I do that.??
    May I.....<something> ???
    May I.....<yet something> ???
All these courteous sentences had little meaning during those tense days.
Those were those days when we drank water for coke, chapattis for pizzas, wore wind-cheats to avoid the hazardous loos...and yes, ate healthy home-made stuff ONLY.
Health remained uncompromised and a field of intense care. Study hours were steeply increased to about 4-5 hours/day, and life was too hot to handle.
And finally it came, the twenty-fifth day of the month, the most important day of life...
After a mediocre and disappointing day, I lost all hopes
But after tallying the answers from FIITJEE's, I got some sort of consolation when I found my rank won't dip below 200-225...
Chalo, whatever happens, its over, its finally, done.
  6. Result-wala month...
It was June... and that too, result-wala...
The WOW! Signal moment came soon with the following decryption...
    AIR- 217    //not too bad...
    Counselling done.
IIT Kharagpur CSE granted..... //wow! signal detected
  7. Time to be an IITian...July to December...
It was time to be in an IIT...
Life ahead was made enormously cool by me.... The result followed, SGPA- 8.7 only...
A lot happened over these days and it's practically not viable to provide highlights to this semester....
Happy New Year folks....
May all of you have a great year ahead...

Time for the revelation,
My new year resolution : <I'll keep it to myself, the most of it>
<The general one>   Be more serious....

Happy Winters...:)

Going back home....#1

Ok... finally decided.
Going back to my home-town from a dreamland has never been so complicated.
First it was the 29th (my exams finish on 28th) and then it was 7th Dec, owing to the TRS Camp and my friends' suggestions.
.
So, today I booked my ticket finally and guess what.???

I booked my ticket today after cancelling the previous one (of 29th ofcourse) and was surprised to see it....

It read:

The Assignment.....#1

Hey guys.... Hola..!!
As the name suggests this blog is about assignment submission and completion and a common-room (sorry Mayank) during such times.

I would kick off with a slight deviation from the topic. This blog is composed keeping in mind the examination pressure (frustapaa) and its associated weapons of mass destruction i.e, ASSIGNMENTS....
But before, I would like to introduce many of my friends (buddies), as they would feature shortly.
So, here are some of my classmates who stood with me in this fight... (In no particular order) :
Mayank (the gamer), considered to be one of the nerds in class.. But is not....He's a cyclist....:P
Ankur (the Engineering Drawing man), the one who toils hard and is always helpful....
Ishaan (the work buddy), same dep, so same tastes....
Avi (with a -kalp), always acting at random moments...product of Encore....
Shashwat (the labbie), one of the studs of the PDS Lab.....
Harsh (one of the BAJAJs), cool as ever...fears never (//stage hamare baap ka hai)....
Upamanyu (the silent guardian), Mayank's roomie and always hangs around to help....
Aman (active and agile), Mayank's wingie... Battery Charged 24x7....

.
.

So, one fine day.... when the birds chirped on the windows of my hostel room, a short and silent message appeared on my ERP.
It read-
" The following assignment to be submitted in the next tutorial class. Links below. "
..
.
....and I knew that a day is ruined....

That was a week ago... Who does an assignment that early..???
We intended to procrastinate it......

                           ......... by a week.

.

The day before:
The hostel is silent. Owing to the Electrical Viva for Chem Sem guys... and end-sem frustapaa for all. In such a somber context, it would be hard to disbelieve that anyone hasn't yet done the assignment (except me...). But, I gathered strength and asked Mayank, with Ankur in vicinity, "Bhai, assignment kiya..???"... The reply was a negation. I was thrilled. Consequently, I further went ahead, "Shuru kiya..????" The answer baffled me.
Ankur spoke "Bhai, only four to go..."
Haha.... Troll moment for me.... I went back.
.
Coming to my room, I studied some "literature" from my Maths textbook and went to sleep after a half night-out (a term entirely suited and created by me) at 2:30 am.
.
.

The day of action:
Mornings are ever amazing here in Kharagpur and this was no different. I woke up to the sound of my alarm at 7 and found myself reluctant to leave the blanket. So, I compromised and woke finally at 9.
The course of action for the day was clear in mind. Assignment Submission.
The time of submission : 4:30 pm... (Thats the reason for this laziness)
Place: Nalanda.... (Oh God, not again)

I found myself ready to face all challenges when I first opened the assignment. It was at home. I did a bit of doodles and rough clacs and the first two questions disappeared from the "yet to-do list" in no time. Then I remembered Mayank and the adventures of my first assignment submission when the room where we copied (literally) the things from, was filled with 20 students and we completed the assignment by 5 and reached Nalanda by 5:10....

With a hope of easy, stress free and direct access to solutions, I found myself in Mayank's room after lunch at 2. Ankur and Upamanyu were already there.
I started writing and tried to do problems on my own. But those problems were too boring and we got distracted easily. This was followed by the arrival of Shashwat who had no encounter with this assignment earlier and was in a fix. We together started off as Mayank and Ankur started with their left-over questions...(yes, 4 of them).
Aman entered the room (Virus detected) with his Nexus device and after bragging about the latest features of Android L which he had just downloaded, started a music track to the amuse of all...
Suddenly, we found it our necessity to have some music in the background, and hence turned on the laptop...                                                 // ho gaya assignment.
Shashwat clearly disapproved my choice of Taylor Swift and made us switch to EDM.
This change in the tempo found us holding our heads while Shashwat clearly seemed to be proud of his choice. As a result of the consequent battle, we agreed to shut down all music and come back to the assignment.
The clock read 3.
Now we faced the tough situation. An hour and half to go and what we had was less than a dozen questions on the submission sheets. We were Screwed.!!!!

We started to analyse the time and questions left and hereby, find a suitable time-overheads ratio which never worked for us unfortunately.
Then, arrived Bajaj, and with him came the spirit of haste, the understanding of the situation.
We shut our minds and copied whatever and however we could. Meanwhile, Mayank and Ankur were still on the very same question.
Upamanyu, bored as he was, went to a carefree sleep.... Oh God, how I longed for that.!!

Then approximately by 3:45 we were at par with Mayank and Ankur and it was now we decided to find the way out. We were 4 questions short and had no time for genuine solutions. We had to copy.
Then, I suddenly remember of Ishaan and randomly called him...I found that, he had done the assignment (at least more than us), just 2 questions short.... We rushed up the stairs and ran 3 floors up and into the adjoining wing and found ourselves in Ishaan's room. Ishaan and Avi sat with manuscripts in their hands puzzled for their path ahead.
We barged in and snatched their coveted sheets and began to copy. By this time, our minds had started working and we struggled for genuine solutions. The result.??
...  By 4:15 we were just 1 question down....
.
We were tense... We were excited...
We were hopeful... We were disgusted....
.
This made Avi loose him mind and he started acting dumbly...
After this short and least-celebrated Avi performance, which made us reluctant to stop criticizing him, we knew we had a task in hand...

Finally, I took the 2 kilo textbook in my hands (a Herculean task to keep it in air) and began thinking. After a short mind-boggling, we had the solution.!!!
.
Oh man... Everyone was thrilled.
I scribbled the answer, so did the others and finally, we had it done.

Time 4:25 pm.
After publishing the final solution and everyone confirming it, we left for our rooms to get ready and start on our journey to Nalanda...

We reached at 4:45, which is still considered graceful... (remember last time we reached after 5:10).

After finishing it up, we just had one thing in mind....
MA10001, we just completed all your assignments...Yeah.!!!

#
No one will ever want to remember the day of assignment submission as it is so disgrace-inflicting and morale-discharging....
I wonder what all these guys will say when they see it on the web...
Nevertheless, its there.. they'll have to cope up with it.
#

.

But, these are the moments in college life which actually bind us.
This is the time we learn team-work and strategy.
This is the time we learn time- management and lots of such fundas...
This is the time we are truly, friends....

#FriendsForever.  #AssignmentsForever. #EndSemsFrustapaa.

See you all soon after end-sems.... :)

LBS- My hostel....#1

A short intro to my situation... This was the first time that I was away, left alone some 1000 kms away from a familiar place. To add up to the sorrows, there was no previously-encountered soul (except one, JUST one in 10000) in this 2200 acre campus which was densely filled with people speaking a never-foreseen tongue (ya, Bengali), predominantly....
But, yes I arrived here and got to business soon....

My hostel called LBS "officially- Lal Bahadur Shashtri Hall of Residences" is the latest inclusion in the elite group of hostels in IITKGP (some 21 of them).
Well we live in the newest hall of the oldest IIT in India....           //some irony here.
This hall constructed adjacent to the oldest hall complex (PAN Loop) of the campus is the largest hall in the college....                        // pride++
This hall has enough space to shelter all male first-years and some seniors. This fact can also be quoted as the only place in KGP, where seniors are in a minority...
The hall comprises of galleries filled with aspiring footballers and cricketers, a 2-floor mess (no comments on this, sorry), 2 breeding pools for mosquitoes (water storage tanks for fire-fighting purposes), 2 parking lots, 2 playing grounds, and lots and lots of interesting people residing in 5 floors of the hall....
.
The hall can be designated as a UNESCO World Cultural Hotspot (surely, I'm not joking....).
The hall is filled with people from every nook and corner of this diverse country and the hall enjoys some international exposure as well....
Although the majority belongs to the immensely JEE-trained personnel of some coaching centres in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, there is a vast proportion of people from Bengali speaking provinces as well....
Then we have the Delhiites (easy to identify), Punjabis (very easy to identify), Gujaratis (with loads of Gujarati food to sustain them in case of a famine), UP guys (with a characteristic Hindi tone), Tamil people, Rajasthanis, Maharashtrians and whatever corner I left out are also included....
This 'MINI INDIA' model of a hostel is actually the fact which everyone craves for...
The feel of learning a new language, of making new and talented friends, of discovering each aspect of hostel life with those friends is sublime....
.
It actually can't get better than this.... Multi-cultural, Multi-traditional, Multi-talented people all bundled up together to form a magnificent collage of IIT....
..
This is what an IIT is,actually, all about...
Bringing Indians together in a perfect environment of education and let that interaction improve each and every element of this system....
.
Perfect...
We are all brothers... we are all IITians.... we are all, truly, Indians.... :)
/* The truth has been spoken */

Bhaat....#1

Bhaats are the true essence of any IITian's life.
Bhaat, for people who don't know, is just a random gossip, entertaining and usually interspersed with talks of academics, space-ships, theories of life, Bollywood, interesting tech talks etc...etc..etc... (literally a non-exhaustive list).
.
.
I'd like to share a very informative and productive way of spending a Bhaat session...(if ever you wanna try) :
Note- This was first implemented and introduced by my friend Vraj, and I'm still fighting a lawsuit to claim its copyrights from him....:P
.
We play a game, name-sake, only for entertainment and time-travel (a terribly misplaced but sci-fi term for 'TIME-WASTE')....
We assign a player, say X, to think of a person.....
Male or female....
Living or dead...
Actual or Hypothetical....(well yes)
and whatever subcategories may follow.....

Then the group of other people have 20 questions to ask to the player X who would answer only in an affirmative or negative...
This Questionnaire actually helps us to reach "to" the answer....(lie detected)
These questions have to be chiseled out with extreme intricacy and after suffice discussion. More often than not, the discussion blasts out from the atmosphere and enters the fathomless pool of infinite information....
.
.
But, the result, the information, the bonding and value of time we get to spend is phenomenal....
